When purchased, this 1983 Alumacraft T-16XL wasn’t a turnkey fishing boat. It was an abandoned aluminum hull with damaged rivets, leaks, dents, a deteriorated transom, aging wiring, and years of deferred maintenance — plus outboards of unknown condition.
Rather than shopping for something already finished, the work began with a harder question: what does it take to restore one properly, and how do you document that so the next project starts further ahead?
Treat restoration as a systems problem. Every repair affects another component. Every improvement builds on previous work. The process rewards patience, documentation, and continuous learning more than rushing toward a finished product.
